Mineral and fruity with delicate aromas of jasmine, lychee and tea roase that transition into lemon drop, ripe pear and green apple flavors. This Chardonnay offers a smokey, spicy anise character that weaves through the honeyed finish and crisp acidity. "The grapes were hand picked from our best Chardonnay vineyard blocks, with soil types ranging from rocky to limestone to thick layers of clay. The grapes were whole cluster pressed and racked into small french oake barrels. Primary fermentation lasted for two weeks and the wine was inoculated to complete 80% malolactic fermentation. 30% of the3 wine waqs aged in Francois Freres and Rousseau new French oak barrels for a period of 9 months. Each barrel was then tasted and the final blend was hand selected from the best barrel lots. " Winemaker's Notes A juicy mouthful of Chardonnay, with ripe pear, citrus, light toasty oak and melon flavors that are smooth and creamy, finishing with a light hazelnut aftertaste. Drink now through 2002. A shade coarse, with an oaky edge, the core of Chardonnay flavor is built around pear, spice, apricot and fig notes that are rich and long on the finish. Marked by penetrating acidity that’s almost stinging, this Chard is balanced with a creamy, buttery texture framing rich flavors of pineapple tart, Key lime pie and smoky butterscotch. Good price for a wine of this depth and complexity. Stephen Tanzer: NA Robert Parker: NA Wine Spectator: 90 Staff: NA
