We thought Solitude was gone forever, but the winery's been revived, and it's better than ever! This 2008 Chardonnay is their first since the 2005 vintage. This is unmistakably a CALIFORNIA Chardonnay, rich and full-bodied. Aromas of coconut, mango, fig, quince and creme brulee are typical of the cool Carneros region. Layers of rich oak are evident, but not at all overwhelming. The wine is rich, but elegant and retains refreshing acidity to keep the wine balanced. In short, this is Solitude in all its glory, and it's delicious! Winemaker's notes - This vintage exemplifies the style of wine we try to achieve at SOLITUDE. Layers of oak complement the tropical fruit flavors of the Carneros appellation. Our wine is dry, full and very rich but retains refreshing acidity to keep the wine well balanced. This is my twenty-first vintage of making SOLITUDE Chardonnay. Over this period the wine has developed a reputation for consistency and value. As always our grapes came from Sangiacomo Vineyards just south of the Town of Sonoma. I’m extremely pleased with this vintage because it exhibits the classic characters of the Carneros. There are rich tropical fruit aromas, with smooth mouth-filling flavors and a crisp finish. |
