The 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (44% Grenache, 29% Syrah, 19% Mourvedre, and the remainder Cinsault plus other varietals) may turn out to be the finest traditional cuvee yet produced under Dugas. A dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a sweet bouquet of creme de cassis, new saddle leather, licorice, and white flowers. Sweet on the attack, long, rich, and impressive, it will be at its best between 2005-2015.
