The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (bottled in July) contains small portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A difficult year, the Araujos declassified more Cabernet Sauvignon in 1997 than in any other vintage. The resulting wine is an outstanding effort. Dark purple-colored and evolved for a young wine from this estate, it exhibits a gorgeously pure cassis nose with scents of minerals, tar, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, with a lush mid-palate and sweet tannin in the finish, this wine can be drunk now or cellared for 15-20 years.
